‘The more our hearts love this beautiful earth and everything within it, the more we feel the pain of the life that is currently being harmed on the planet. Though this experience is sometimes difficult to bear, it has a purpose. Our love can help kindle the necessary fire within to protect that which we hold most dear’

– Mark Coleman, Author, Awake in the Wild

As a psychologist I appreciate how the broader context within which we live has an impact on our minds and the habit patterns that evolve, both helpful and harmful.
That we live in the context of climate change and everything that contributed towards it. And also live in a culture of change, there are people everywhere realising that benefits of slowing down, tuning in, living mindfully, reconnecting with our true nature, and with community.

While climate change is an unavoidable reality, being awake to it requires a certain level of psychological care. And responding to it can be both deeply rewarding and painfully challenging. Surprisingly, one of the most shared challenges is our inner self-critics.

The thoughts of self-doubt: who am I to make a difference?
Thoughts of comparisons: I’ll never be as good as …..
Self-derogatory commentary: why on earth did I say that? Idiot!
Thoughts of guilt: I shouldn’t have (eaten meat/purchased clothes/driven to work)
Of shame: I’m a bad human being…there is something wrong with me….. !

Yet having an inner critic is not our fault. It is a reflection of being human, with our flaws, quirks and imperfections.

So what on earth is our inner critic trying to achieve?
Does it really push or motivate us to be better?

This session will give you some space. to tend to, in the most deliberate and gentle way, your minds very own habit patterns.

Held in Ceres we will be surrounded by nature, inviting our nervous systems and minds to calm and open. Woven through the session will be practises of quiet contemplation, reflection and restoration. This is an opportunity to be with, and playfully explore, your experience in a gentle manner and to walk away feeling nourished.

So I hope you’ll join me on on Saturday 4th August starting 2pm
