Salvador, Brazil | Pan-African Connections: Culture and Religions of the African Matrix

This interdisciplinary convening of practitioners and academics is designed to expand a global understanding of multi-dimensional healing modalities among people of African ancestry.

Pan-African Connections: Culture and Religions of the African Matrix

This convening is designed to bring together wellness (wholistic, mental, and allied health), traditional healers, educators, scholars, writers, and legal professionals of African ancestry to explore indigenous healing modalities. Participants will travel to Salvador, Brazil (the capital state of Bahia) and be immersed in the rich cultural heritage and African Matrix of Religions (from the Congo, Guinea, and Yorubland) that influence the healing traditions of Brazil. Discussions will include how these traditions intersect with education, healthcare, law, policy, and other structural systems.

This five-day convening combines scholarly exchanges with cultural immersion tours, including the exploration of the strong African retention present in Salvador, Brazil. Workshops will include continuing education sessions, African-based healing practices, meetings with local healers, Candomble priests, and scholars.
