Introduction to Forged Jewelry
One of America’s greatest sculptors, Alexander Calder, made jewelry using little more than a hammer and pliers. This class will introduce students to some of the techniques used to create dynamic pieces without solder.
One of America’s greatest sculptors, Alexander Calder, made jewelry using little more than a hammer and pliers. This class will introduce students to some of the techniques used to create dynamic pieces of jewelry without solder.
Through this fast paced class students will learn the basic tools and techniques of making forged jewelry. Topics covered will include the basics of directional forging, making a taper, the “flip”, forged earrings, and the fibula, a one piece pin which traces its origins to the Roman toga.
Students will work red brass and copper.
A material fee of $25.00 is payable to the instructor at the time fo the class. Additionally, round silver wire in a variety of gauges will be available for student purchase.
