Glassblowing for Beginners

In this class, you will learn how to gather molten glass on the end of a blow pipe and insert a “bubble” as it cools from its molten state. From this starting point, you will learn how to:

Use hand tools to shape the glass
Add color to jazz up your piece
Transfer your piece from the blowpipe to a punty
Finish the piece and prepare the annealer

You will work in a 2-person team, alternating between the glass blower (gaffer) and the important role of assisting the gaffer.

This class is offered on two different schedules for a total of 14 hours in the studio. This class posting is for the weekday sessions March 12, 14 and 19, 21, from 6pm to 9:30pm.

Prior experience is not necessary. But we recommend first taking the Introduction to Glassblowing class to experience how glass behaves in its molten state.

Students must wear natural fiber clothes and no open toe shoes.

Required Minimum Class Size - 2 students

To practice what you learn, you can rent the glass studio on an hourly basis. And you can schedule private instruction with one of Liberty Arts’ instructors. See website for details
