Scratch Block Workshop

Carve your own tile mold (scratch block) to be cast in iron during the 4th Annual Iron Pour in Durham Central Park on November 16th!

You will receive 1 single 6” x 6” blank tile mold (a block of resin-bonded sand; “scratch block”) into which you can carve any shallow-relief design you so wish. On average the scratch blocks take about an hour to carve depending on your design. There is no experience necessary, nor any need to bring your own safety gear. We will provide instruction, safety gear, tools, and materials in this workshop, after which you will leave your mold with the Liberty Arts team until the Iron Pour event on November 16th. Cost per individual is $40.

There are also a few options to be an angel and pay a little more, helping us add to the amount we raise with this amazing event. This is our big fundraiser of the year and we would SO appreciate the extra to put towards our daily expenses of keeping the roof over our heads and everything powered up so we can educate, empower and entertain this fabulous community.

PICKUP for the finished iron cast tiles is scheduled for Sunday November 17th between 12 pm and 3pm If you can not make that pickup time, please let us know in advance to make arrangements.

The Iron Pour:
On the evening of November 16th, you will be able to watch as we pour 3000degree iron into your mold. The 4th Annual Iron Pour in Durham Central Park will have local craft beer, a slate of food trucks, performances, and - of course - molten cast iron! The Pour is an entirely public event, so please come and enjoy!
