Speaking about the Spectrum: Understanding Autism in the Context of Race, Gender, and SES

This workshop will explore the intersectionality of race, gender, and SES in the diagnosis and treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Given the diverse presentation of ASD symptoms, there can be significant challenges with recognizing the disorder across different demographics. This challenge can lead to misdiagnosis, missed diagnosis, and inconsistent treatment.

By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

1. Identify the diagnostic criteria of Autism Spectrum Disorder and its diverse presentation.
2. Explain the demographic factors that influence the recognition, diagnosis, and treatment of ASD.
3. Demonstrate culturally responsive techniques to reduce biases in the diagnostic process.
