A Healing Paradigm

This workshop is designed to increase attendees cultural competency skills when working with African American women experiencing disordered feeding and eating patterns.

This advanced training is designed to provide attendees the skill set needed to assess feeding and eating disorders among African American women. Attendees will increase their skills in understanding the ways in which culture impacts the conceptualization, diagnosis, and treatment of feeding and eating disorders when working with African American women.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Describe the scholarly literature regarding Black women and eating disorders.
2. Describe and summarize the importance of self-care for clinicians and allied professionals who work with feeding and eating disorders.
3. Explain ways in which culture impacts conceptualization, diagnosis, and treatment of feeding and eating disorders.
4. Discuss ways in which ethnicity and intersectionality impact feeding and eating disorder diagnoses and subsequent treatment.
