Trainers: Reg Morrow Robinson & Bill Brislin

About this Course:

Please note this is a Live, Virtual R-TEP/G-TEP training. It will not be available for delayed viewing.

We strongly believe that it’s more important than ever to to train clinicians in EMDR Early Intervention Protocols for individuals and groups. These skills are needed. That’s why EMDR R-TEP/G-TEP co-creator Elan Shapiro has given us permission to take this training virtual over our HIPPA-compliant Zoom platform. The training will still be live, and will include lots of interaction and practicum. Trainers Reg Morrow Robinson and Bill Brislin will ensure there is plenty of dynamic energy and support throughout the two days, and will share best practices for delivering R-TEP/G-TEP via telehealth platforms. Training materials and handouts will be delivered electronically.

This this two-day Recent Traumatic Episode and Group Traumatic Episode Protocol training developed by Elan Shapiro and Brurit Laub leads you step by step through comprehensive, research validated protocols for working with survivors of recent trauma both individually and in groups. While EMDR Basic Training provides an overview of one of the recent events protocols, this comprehensive protocol offers a deeper understanding and sheds light on broader applications of how and when to use EMDR for early trauma intervention.

Participants Will Learn to:

  • Identify when Early EMDR Intervention is appropriate.
  • Compare the EMDR standard protocol and EMDR R-TEP protocol.
  • Apply Early EMDR clinical skills with additional measures for containment and safety.
  • Describe EMD, EMDr, EMDR and how each is applied.
  • Identify key features and concepts for the R-TEP protocol.
  • Use key procedures for the R-TPEP protocol.
  • Identify and comprehend key features and concepts of the Group Traumatic Episode Protocol (G-TEP).
  • Demonstrate the bilateral movements within the G-TEP protocol utilizing the G-TEP worksheet.
  • Use key procedures for the G-TEP protocol.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply the Group Traumatic Episode Protocol (G-TEP) in their clinical practice.
  • Evaluate the significance of the G-TEP and Early Intervention.
  • Identify resources for further support in the application of R-TEP/G-TEP.

Why Take This Course?

  • Receive the latest R-TEP/G-TEP manual, including protocols, scripts, and worksheets updated by co-creator Elan Shapiro this year.
  • Experience expanded practice time and support to develop your skills.
  • Understand how to respond effectively to traumatic events experienced both by your clients and your community.
  • Learn creative applications, such as using G-TEP for couples.

The EMDR R-TEP protocol is applied when a recent event has occurred that requires containment and additional assistance with integration beyond the standard protocol. It is a comprehensive approach to treating recent events in the belief that serious trauma symptoms may be prevented by receiving early interventions. The protocol contains built in checks to address stuck points quickly while recognizing the importance of meeting the clients where they are and taking it step by step. It is a comprehensive approach to treating recent events in the belief that serious trauma symptoms are prevented by receiving early interventions. The EMDR G-TEP protocol is a group application useful for small groups including couples, families, and those impacted by the same traumatic event, such as a natural disaster or act of violence.

Prerequisite: Participants must have completed EMDR Basic Training with an EMDRIA-approved training provider.

About The Presenters

Reg Morrow Robinson has been a practicing therapist for 30 years. She has worked with crisis over her career, was introduced to EMDR therapy in 1995, became an EMDRIA consultant in 2000 and a basic trainer in 2008. In 2012 she became an EMDR R-TEP/G-TEP trainer. Reg has long had an interest in EMDR early interventions and chaired a panel at the EMDR Early Intervention Summit April 22, 2018: US based community response networks. Reg is passionate about building community capacity to respond to manmade and natural disasters plus applying EMDR in a time efficient manner to anyone impacted by an overwhelming experience.

Bill Brislin learned the principles of crisis intervention and stabilization during his fifteen years of clinical work in an AIDS support agency. This perspective was enhanced when he was trained in the EMDR Recent Traumatic Episodes Protocols by its founders, Elan Shapiro and Bruit Laub, in 2010. Since that time, Bill has found the protocol to be immensely helpful as an early intervention following recent traumas as well as for ongoing situations, such as cancer or dissolution of a relationship, which emerge over time. The focus on containment and stability provides clinicians with a reliable approach for treating the most difficult of situations.
