Introduction to Fly Fishing

Intro to Fly Fishing

Do you know someone that wants to learn to fly fish? A spouse, friend, girlfriend, neighbor, or work colleague. Deep Creek Fly Fishers does a class every year for people interested in learning to fly fish. This class is open to everyone, young or old, man, or woman. You do not need to be a Deep Creek Fly Fishers Member to join, but we would love to have you join! Information is below.

We’ll talk about fly rods and the difference in fly rods and which rod to buy. What line weight is best for what type of fishing. The differences in click & pawl and drag reels. A little bit on entomology, reading a stream or lake, etiquette on the stream, and flies to use where. We also talk about safety tips while fly fishing. We will also do some casting to show the difference in fly casting and bait casting.

We are going to have our Intro to Fly Fishing class on March 5th, 2022 at the Izzac Walton building (Deep Creek Fly Fishers Clubhouse). The Class is from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and is FREE. We provide lunch, so it is mandatory for the people attending to sign up and register through this website. Like I always say, if five people sign up online and twelve people show up seven people will be hungry at lunch time. The class is limited to fourteen people. We will have one person at each end of an eight feet table. We only have room for nine tables in the clubhouse. We’ll provide notebooks to take notes but they need to bring something to write with.
