The Compass Arts Young People’s Performance Company is an exciting new program at CACP. In this program, students will meet weekly for 90 minutes and have a monthly Saturday afternoon class for 2-3 hours. During the weekly class, we’ll continue to expand upon the theater games and long-form improv skills honed in our younger theater classes, but will also delve into scene work, monologues, and songs to focus more deeply on the craft of acting and performance. Students will also have the opportunity to focus on other aspects of the theater and music, like stage management, costume design, set and prop design, and tech. All along, we will be creating original works (theatrical and musical) to share with the community throughout the year, culminating in a final performance at the Spring Showcase the weekend of May 5-7, 2023.

The once-a-month weekend classes will give students an opportunity for special workshops, sometimes with guest teachers, or for deep dives on original work, especially as we get closer to the spring showcase. Throughout the year, the Young People’s Company will host “performance nights” where company members can perform something they are working on in class (long-form improv, monologue or scene, sketch, song, etc.) The goal is to give the students a place to dig deeper into acting and performing, to create original work that allows them to express their authentic selves, and to have opportunities to perform more regularly in a supportive environment, all while building community.

This company is a school year commitment running from September 21st through June 14th so that we may create a cohesive and compassionate ensemble community and have the space to explore and create material with time for reflection and editing. Includes all materials. Additional rehearsals will take place in the weeks leading up to the final spring showcase performances.

Auditions for this program will be held Wednesday, September 14th, from 5:15-6:45 pm for all interested students. Payment plans and financial assistance are available - email enrich@compassarts.org to inquire.
