2D to 3D: Drawing and Painting into Sculpture
For students in 3rd-6th grade
Mondays, 6pm-7pm, April 17 to June 12, 2023 (no class 5/29)

Looking at examples of contemporary sculptors and artists from art history (including Alexander Caldor and Frank Stella), students will learn the differences between two and three-dimensional art, and how to go from an idea to a drawing to a sculpture. The class is process oriented which means we will be learning through the act of making. Lessons include exercises in drawing, sculpture building, and color study/theory. Focus will be on movement and balance through the exploration of line, shape, and color. The final project will be made from a series of sketches that are then cut out of cardboard, assembled, and painted.

Samantha is a visual fine artist with a demonstrated history of working in the arts as an artist, teacher, curator, and arts administrator. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York. Teaching experience includes over twenty years teaching visual arts to children and adults both inside and outside the classroom. A Beacon resident since 2014, and currently a board member of BeaconArts, Samantha is a longstanding advocate for arts in the community. www.samanthapalmeri.com
