Submitting to Poetry Contests and Prizes | Led by Ananda Lima
As a poet, you may have been immersed in thinking of craft, beauty, truth, sorrow, and memory, as you work in your book. But after the manuscript is done, how do you go from working in that precious private world to getting it to be a book out in the world? This workshop is for poets who want to learn about the process of publishing a collection of poetry: whether they have a finished manuscript they are ready to send, a manuscript in progress and want to have a preview of what’s ahead or if they want to review and hone in their current process of submission. We will talk about finding and evaluating contest opportunities, considerations narrowing down a list (from artistic fit to logistical considerations), preparing submissions, managing the process, as well as protecting and nurturing the work and the artist while having work under submission.

This workshop is for:
  • Writers that have finished a manuscript and are ready to submit
  • Writers who are still working on a manuscript but want to learn about the process so that they are ready
  • Writers who are currently submitting but want to review and hone in their process
