Performatots Summer School 2020

We have a fabulous programme of learning activities and dazzling play opportunities, which children so desperately need right now, after experiencing the very unprecedented challenges of Lockdown. These weeks are an incredible opportunity for your new school starter to experience school life, in a brilliantly supportive and safe environment, helping them to specifically prepare for the transition to big school in September.

Our sparkly Summer School weeks are specifically designed to imitate a school day, and especially focus on developing the personal, social and emotional skills needed to be an amazing friend, a kind, helpful pupil and self-motivated learner. Our Summer School weeks are fun, fun, fun and give children a chance to experience a well-balanced and enriching curriculum each week they attend. Each week also includes literacy development, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) activities and all children receive a certificate and medal on the Friday in our celebration ceremony - we will be boosting confidence and creativity at every opportunity.

So, what might your little one be doing on a ‘Reception-Ready’ Performatots Summer School week?

Well, this could be anything from baking in the Performatots kitchen, to making some inspirational artwork in our very own Discovery Den, to trying yoga & mindfulness with our well-being children’s champion. They might be having a super fun PE gymnastics lesson, a Disney inspired dance class or acting out traditional tales in our gorgeous drama studio! If it’s arty, creative and inspires confidence and curiosity, then that’s exactly our ethos and our aims of the Reception Ready Summer School Programme.

YOU are the theme of this week! We will be discovering our young children’s unique interests and talents, celebrating our similarities and differences with other children across the world, finding out what we are good at, what makes our hearts sing and making music, dancing and storytelling in the magical Performatots way! Expect a week full of opportunities including a puppet show that teaches children about positive self-talk, a super sports day, emotion coaching with our well-being specialist teacher, body painting, clay ‘self-portraits’ - and that’s just a sneak peek at the week!

Part of being ‘Reception-Ready’ at our Summer School will involve practicing our independence skills; things like using a knife and fork, learning how to wash our hands properly and popping our coats and shoes on ourselves for an outing or playtime outdoors. We will also be learning how to make conversations with new friends, how to share, take turns, ask for our teachers to help us and how to contribute to a class discussion. We will be working on focus and attention , listening and speaking skills and developing our ‘critical thinking’ too.

We want your child to feel a sense of achievement, a feeling of pride in themselves and a warm feeling of ‘I can do it!’. We want to get them excited about starting school, ready and raring to go in September, having had that boost of ‘Reception-Ready’ skills and experience from their time at a Performatots Summer School.

Our teaching team includes fully qualified teachers, exceptional early years specialists and a qualified Paediatric First Aider on site at all times. All our team have a wealth of experience of managing the transition from pre-school into reception, and are passionately dedicated to ensuring the highest quality tuition and play experiences to enhance young children’s brain development.

Our Ofsted Registered Pre-School Department are just wonderful at making children feel at home and happy. To help those who are new to us, we will be video-calling you the week prior and sending pictures of staff and our lovely learning spaces, so that you can help your child be excited and looking forward to coming and experiencing the Performatots magic!

Our Pre-School has a number of Covid-Secure measures in place to ensure staff and families safety is our number on priority. Our full Risk-Response policy is available upon request and you will be advised of the exact measures we will be taking nearer the time of your summer school. Every effort will be taken, including children are in small, limited class sizes, hand-washing on entry and throughout the day, as well as ensuring we limit the impact these measures will have on children’s experiences, so that we make them fun and normal and an opportunity to learn independence skills too.
