Program Summary

Would you like your students to create data visualizations that are both beautiful and effective narrative tools? Would you like to better communicate your data in scholarly publications and presentations? If these questions interest you, please consider joining us for the first Faculty Hub Institute: Data Visualizations in R.

The ability to communicate a narrative derived from data is important for the advancement of scholarship and for preparing our students for life after graduation. Two changes in the past decade have reduced the barriers to creating beautiful and effective data visualizations: technological advances in data visualization software and the growing availability of data.

Learning Objectives

-Enhance faculty data visualization and management knowledge and skillset (R)
-Develop community among faculty using data visualization in their teaching and scholarship
-Develop a specific assignment or research-asset around data visualization
-Scholarship example: A data visualization for a future grant, presentation, publication
-Teaching example: A data visualization assignment for an upcoming course or lab

Additional Information

In spring 2021, we will be offering this institute two times: once at the beginning of the semester (starting with an all-day workshop on January 13) and again, after the conclusion of the semester. Details will be available in February.

We are currently accepting registrations for the early semester cohort here. Please note that we will be offering the workshop in the blended format but in-person spots (Boatwright Library - 3rd floor) are limited to 11 and are first-come-first-serve. Please indicate your preference, and we will confirm when your registration is processed.
