Though many people tend to think of reproductive health, rights, and justice interchangeably, each is quite different. Reproductive Justice evolved from the limitations of the health and rights movements that centered on the individual. Reproductive Justice centers on community access – and the way people’s identities impact their access. While Roe v. Wade made abortion legal, it fell far short of creating access for everyone. The recent overturning of Roe and the continual rollout of bans and restrictive policies has exponentially illuminated the role of access for abortion seekers. This moment is our opportunity to grow the movement, shape our environments to respond to community needs, and pass legislation that centers on people who are most impacted by oppressive and restrictive policies and to address the plethora of issues that impact true reproductive liberation.
