Alternative Assessments for Student Success
When considering how to assess student learning in a course, most instructors think of traditional approaches but these may not always be a good fit. This workshop explores the application of alternative and authentic assessments in the higher education setting. We will explore the characteristics, and justification of alternative and authentic assessments. Participants will be introduced to a range of authentic assessment methods through case studies, and examples. Strengths and weaknesses of using authentic and alternative assessments will be explored. During this session, we will also explore examples of alternative and authentic assessments. We will also review the features of the UWI St. Augustine Alternative assessment framework and guide. Participants are required to take part in hands-on opportunity to apply the ‘authentic’ approach into their assessment practice.
