Site Management Safety Training Scheme - Block
Overview:
The SMSTS course is designed to cover all relevant legislation and other aspects which affect safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforce.
Build UK (formerly the United Kingdom Contractors Group - UKCG) recognises this SMSTS course as meeting the required standard for all managers working on all their sites.
Who should attend?
Site managers, agents and persons who are, or are about to be, responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering groups of staff and workforce would benefit from the SMSTS course.
Duration:
The SMSTS course lasts 5 days and delegates must attend all 5 days.
Aims and Objectives:
The SMSTS course aims to help site managers, agents and supervisors to:
• Manage health and safety on site in accordance with current legal provisions, and within the context of their management or supervisory role
• Develop an understanding of responsibilities and accountability for site health, safety and welfare
• Recognise a safe site is efficient, economical and productive.
Outcomes:
On successful completion of the SMSTS course, delegates will be aware of, and able to:
• Implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation which affects them during their daily work
• Implement new guidance and industry best practice
• State their duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment.
End-of-Course Examination Rules:
The examination paper is compulsory and consists of 25 multiple-choice questions covering all aspects of the SMSTS course, written and selected by CSkills Awards. It forms part of the overall assessment as to whether or not the delegate has successfully achieved the Construction Site Manager’s Safety Certificate and demonstrated both knowledge of the relevant statutory provisions and the application of management, in respect of health and safety issues. The examination demonstrates to external bodies that the certificate is only awarded to successful delegates following both an assessment and examination. The examination lasts for 30 minutes and must be completed within this time. Delegates are permitted to use the Construction Site Safety (GE700) publication and the XA6 Course Notes for the last ten minutes of the examination period. The examination pass mark is 72%.

Delegates must bring photographic ID to the course along with date of birth and NI number.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you arrive at the venue 15 minutes before the course start time.
In the interests of Health & Safety, access to the training premises is not permitted before 8am.
TALA Training will accept no responsibility if you arrive late or fail to arrive due to adverse weather conditions, failure of transport or any other circumstances.
COVID-19 Update
TALA Training have introduced a range of measures to ensure the safety and well being of our training candidates and staff. All training venues have COVID-19 signage, hand sanitising stations and social distancing measures in place with reduced classroom numbers. A full induction will be provided to all candidates on the COVID-19 procedures. Unfortunately, we are no longer able to provide lunches at training courses due to the hygiene risk of buffet style lunches, therefore candidates are advised to bring lunch with them to the course, there are local shops a short drive from the venue. If you, anyone in your household or anyone with whom you have been in contact with has experienced coronavirus symptoms 14 days prior to the course start date then you should not attend and should contact us immediately to let us know, we must be contacted before the course start date to allow for the appropriate booking transfer to be made.
