Fused Glass Batik™: The Masterclass

The beauty of batik fabric captured in kilnformed glass!

Introducing a groundbreaking online class experience: "Fused Glass Batik: The Live Zoom Class."

Discover the mesmerizing artistry of batik in a whole new medium – fused glass. Just like the intricate and vibrant patterns of traditional batik fabric, our live Zoom class will guide you through creating a captivating tapestry of colors and designs that will ignite your imagination and impress everyone who sees it.

With techniques that mirror the timeless methods of traditional batik artists, you can now achieve similar results in fused glass, using tools, materials, and equipment commonly found in most personal fusing studios.

Meet the Instructors

Paul Tarlow and Angela Byrd have been teaching fused glass professionally for over 20 years and the fused glass batik methods taught in this class for over a decade. Since joining forces to teach, their classes have continued to earn 5 star reviews from virtually every student attending their classes.

What You'll Learn:

  • Advanced Stencil Work with Powders: Dive into multi-stencil designs, pattern stacking, stencil shifting, feathering edges, and more. We'll even show you our foolproof technique for easy stencil removal, even if your hands aren't the steadiest!
  • Glass Powder Mastery: Explore the intricate interplay of different colors, learn how to mix and match colors to create your own unique palettes, and discover various powder sifting styles and when to use them.
  • Powder Gapping with Surface Tension: Achieve the signature design element of traditional batik by creating vibrant designs against rich, deep backdrops. Learn to use your kiln and glass's unique properties to achieve this effect, making even the lightest colors "pop" against the darkest backgrounds.

Students in this class provide their own materials and fire projects in their own kilns. All firing schedules are provided as part of the instruction.

What Makes This Class Exceptional:

  • World-class instructors with decades of experience both working with glass and teaching.
  • Live sessions via Zoom: Experience the class in the comfort of your own space. You get the benefits of a live class without the expense or hassle of traveling.
