The concept of the assessors' course revolves around the fundamental ​principles of ASPA and competence. This course will introduce assessors to current best techniques and systems used to assess practical competence, facilitating the achievement of high levels of competence and animal welfare within research establishments.

Ultimately, high levels of competence contribute to the generation of high-quality data.

This is helped if assessors are able to implement a system of assessment that will promote competence, so removing one variable from the research being conducted and achieving standardisation.

This course will be run over two days focusing on what to do prior to assessment, during assessment and post assessment, followed by a course project.
