Summary

COR's Foundational Health Training provides comprehensive education for employees on medication administration procedures, the HELP Model and Fatal 5 + 1, and different health conditions people with disabilities may experience. The learning content includes, but is not limited to: COR'S Medication Administration Policy which includes roles and responsibilities surrounding medications, safe storing and disposal of medications, proper administration and documentation (6 Rights of Medication Administration), PRN (as needed) medications, potential side effects of medications, and how to prevent/report medication errors.

  • The HELP Model: Recognizing that changes in behaviour can be communication of unmet needs
  • Physical health conditions that are associated with preventable deaths for people with intellectual or development disabilities (IDD) in different care settings
  • Health disparities for people with IDD
  • Education regarding medical conditions people with IDD are more likely to experience, such as: metabolic syndrome, diabetes, seizures, constipation and gastroesophageal reflux disease
  • Differentiation between routine, urgent and emergent medical conditions
  • How/when to access appropriate medical care and available resources (HealthLine 811)
