We must be unapologetically, fiercely ourselves.

Are you drawn to poetry, but unsure where to start? Are you an established poet who jumps at the chance to chat about it with other poets? Are you looking to spark ideas for Personal Narrative?
Join Cindy for an immersive 3-week online journey into the world of this fearless, boundary-pushing writer.
Cindy's love for Sharon Olds' poetry has grown exponentially since reading Satan Says in the early 1980s, and she'd love to share that passion with others. Over three Thursday evenings (Feb 29th, March 7th, & March 14th), you'll explore select poems, from the intimate confessions of The Dead and The Living to the raw honesty of Stag's Leap, to the lyrical, and raw, beauty of Odes. From there, you'll create your own work.
No prior poetry experience? No problem! This class is designed for anyone curious about the power of words.
Here's the weekly breakdown:
- Week 1: The Craft: Learn about some of Olds' signature characteristics via line breaks, themes, imagery, rhyme schemes, and more. You'll have the opportunity to share your thoughts and interpretations. Get ready for some on-the-spot writing and introspective journaling as well!
- Week 2: Poetry as a Launchpad for Personal Essays: Learn how to craft personal essays using poems as jumping-off points. You'll write, share, and gain invaluable feedback.
At the end of class, you will have the only homework assigned in this three-week session. You'll receive prompts inspired by Olds's style, themes, and titles. The goal: create your own poem! (You may also create Flash nonfiction!) Then, join us for a supportive and encouraging workshop in week three where we'll celebrate each other's newfound poetic voices – with Cindy guiding the way with strengths-based feedback.
- Week 3: Your Voice, Inspired by Olds: Cindy will lead a workshop for the poems/flash nonfiction you complete for homework. This will be held in a supportive environment, celebrating strengths. If time allows, we will close with a final study or reading of additional poems by the poet herself.
Invest in yourself for just $125 (teachers get 10% off!). This is your chance to unleash your creativity, find your voice, and connect with the raw power of poetry.
