Designing Virtual Exchanges for Adult and Graduate Learners: Insights from Research and Practice

Join Professor Catherine Shiffman and moderators Younus Mirza and Alanna Tierno to discuss virtual exchange for adult and graduate learners. Collaborating with international peers creates unique opportunities to critically examine and expand worldviews, professional knowledge, and practice. Yet, there is limited information available about how to design effective virtual exchanges specifically for adult and graduate learners. With more life experience, adults tend to have more clearly defined learning goals and preferences. They often hold more established understandings of the world and their profession. Many balance their education with competing work, family, and community responsibilities. This webinar will explore emerging insights from the research literature and practice about the characteristics, experiences, and learning outcomes of virtual exchanges for this population (Shiffman, 2023). The session will identify promising strategies to support and facilitate a rich virtual exchange experience for adults and graduate learners and offer suggestions for future expansion in this area.
