Faculty Hiring Workshop

Tue, May 7, 2024, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM EDT
Tyler Haynes Commons, Room 305

The Faculty Hiring Workshop (May 7, 2024, 9 am to 1 pm) will review the faculty hiring process including requirements for faculty job ads, procedures and resources for recruiting, reviewing applications, hosting interviews, and the resources available to departments. The workshop will include an introduction to effective practices for the search that promote equity, consistency, and value the potential contributions of all candidates. Faculty serving on a faculty search committee as search chair or diversity and search advocate (DASA) must attend an entire workshop to be certified to serve; certification is valid for two academic years. All faculty participating in the faculty search process are also encouraged to attend the workshop. The workshop is completed in person. Please register in advance.

Prior to the in person workshop, participants must also complete an online Faculty Hiring Module entitled “Creating an Equitable Search Process” available through TalentWeb. It is required that you complete this within 2 years of serving as a faculty search chair or a DASA. You can locate this online module by clicking on “Learning” on the UR Talent Web home page and then start typing in ‘Creating an Equitable Search Process’ on the ‘search for learning’ bar at the top of the page. A drop-down menu will appear and you can select the course of this title.

Thus, for searches that begin in May 2024, faculty search chairs and DASAs must have completed both training requirements by May 2022. Earlier completion dates require that you renew your training.

Records for completion of required training are maintained in the Office of the Provost and shared with each Dean, to help in the selection of search chairs and DASAs from a list of eligible faculty. Searches should not begin before faculty search chairs and DASAs have completed the required training.

For more information, please contact Linda Boland, Associate Provost for Faculty.

At the May 7, 2024 workshop, coffee and tea will be provided in the morning.

A working lunch will be provided (please indicate any dietary restrictions).
