Lonesome Oak - New Member Orientation

All prospective members must meet the following criteria to be approved for membership:

  • Have a valid Concealed Carry Permit (This ensures that all members have had a recent background check)
  • If you do not have a current Conceal Carry License, you can view available dates and register for an upcoming renewal or new permit class here
  • **Certain exemptions apply for active Law Enforcement Officers and Government Agents
  • Read, understand, & sign our Rules and Regulations. You can preview & download / print them here, however this must be signed at the range.
  • Submit the required payment (varies depending on how many months remain in the year)
  • Attend and successfully pass a Range Safety Test administered by an approved Lonesome Oak Certified Range Safety Officer/Instructor

Why does Lonesome Oak require successfully passing a Range Safety Test, regardless of your experience and qualifications?

Lonesome Oak Guns and Range prioritizes all our members’ safety. In addition to understanding and following all the range rules (attached), everyone is required to pass a fundamental safety test. As members accept the responsibility to shoot on the range unsupervised, this one-time safety test helps ensure responsible and safe firearm handling at the range.

This safety qualification test is very basic and is at no cost to you (other than 10 rounds of ammunition). We generally hold these safety tests once a month but there are times that a special test date can be arranged (please contact Lonesome Oak for details).

The safety test will require you to demonstrate for the RSO/Instructor the following without assistance:

  1. Show how you confirm your handgun is unloaded and be able to show the instructor your firearm is clear.
  2. Demonstrate how to safely load your handgun.
  3. Show the instructor the proper procedure to follow if you have a malfunction while shooting.
  4. Fire 10 rounds at a standard 8" training target from a distance of 10 feet with all 10 rounds impacting the designated target area.

(You may bring more than 10 rounds to the test to address any malfunctioning cartridges).

All safety tests are conducted with handguns and ammunition that you bring to the test.

If you feel you are not able to satisfactorily demonstrate the above without assistance, Please contact our our Range Safety Officer for information on how to arrange a private lesson.

All handguns must be transported to the range either unloaded and in a case/bag or if carrying a loaded firearm, the gun must be in a holster that fully covers the trigger.

No firearms will be uncased, un holstered or handled in any way without specific direction from the RSO/Instructor.

The RSO/Instructor at their sole discretion can ask you to cease fire and then take temporary possession of your firearm, unload the firearm and request that you either wait until the testing process is completed to discuss why you were asked to stop, or you may leave the range property.

The RSO/Instructor at their sole discretion also can disqualify anyone from the testing process due to unsafe behavior or unsafe equipment.

Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times while in the shooting bay and will be provided (loaned) free of charge if needed.

Everyone will be required to sign two liability waivers.

We certainly hope you will join our range as a member and help continue promoting safe and responsible firearm ownership.
