Vocal Tapestry Workshop (adults and high school juniors/seniors)
Vocal Tapestry Workshop
For adults and high school juniors and seniors
Saturday, April 27th, 1:30-3:30pm
Led by Onome
Vocal Tapestry is a community-wide singing experience that merges the roles of audience and participant, to experience profound creative fellowship through vocal improvisation.
Onome expertly uses the practice of circlesinging, a spontaneously composed choral form, to guide participants into the flow of improvisation - encouraging them to use active listening skills and discover the infinite possibilities of sound in a liberating setting. Engaging in circlesinging for the first time can be a revelatory experience. It is an art of leading from the heart, and trusting the wisdom of our bodies as we create and conduct songs from a place of self-trust, joy, and clarity. The Beacon community will have the chance to experience circlesinging and other improvisational forms with Onome at Vocal Tapestry.
Onome (pronounced like "On a May" afternoon) brings over twenty years of experience in expressive arts facilitation, across a diverse range of programs for both youth and adults. She has partnered with numerous organizations as an artist-in-residence, teaching artist, and facilitator, including Carnegie Hall, United Nations, Bobby McFerrin's CircleSongs program, Madison Youth Choirs, Grace Episcopal Church, Música do Círculo in Brazil, Teatro Portapotese in Italy, Teachers College-Columbia University, and Juilliard.
