Aya Fiber Studio

A combo of nui shibori (stitched) and tatsumaki shibori (tornado), the pattern on the cloth appears like radiant suns. One draws 1/2 of the pattern horizontally along the cloth, spaced not too close together. Every other row the motiffs are centered halfway between the motiffs above and below. The cloth is then put on a rope or flexible and then bound.

Day 1

• Trace pattern to fabric
• Stitch
• Squeeze

Day 2

• Bind fabric to rope
• Temporary and final binding
• Dye
• Wash
• Untie
• Wash

• Pattern paper
• washable pen
• Ate-nuno 2 x 2 cm square
• Clips
• Rope/ Hose
• Clamp
• Seshi-himo
• Koro or stick
• needles, thread, yubinuki

The Sukumo vat is being made for a specific quantity of fabric- Because of this there is a limit of 6 students per class
