Welcome to the Royal Western Yacht Club of Ireland Training Centre.

​Our courses are operated in the safe haven of Kilrush Marina. Our waters are non-tidal and a perfect place to start sailing. Participants must be 16 years or over to take part. Our sailing courses are run in two or three person dinghies or day boats.

This course assumes participants have no previous sailing experience and introduces you to the basics of sailing including rigging, launch and recovery, steering (helming), turning the boat (tacking & gybing) and setting the sails according to the angle you're sailing at to the wind.

We can provide you with a bouyancy aid. All you need is clothing appropriate to the weather conditions e.g. warm clothing including a hat, sunscreen if it's sunny or waterproof clothing if it's raining and water as it's thirsty work out there! Wetsuits are not necessary although there may be an option to sail a smaller and 'wetter' dinghy in later weeks if you wish.

Our instructors are fully qualified by Irish Sailing through the Small Boat Sailing Scheme.

All courses are run in line with Irish Sailing and Sporting Ireland guidelines.
