If you are searching for a place to begin your Te Reo journey then this is the space for you.
Ruumakitia ko te Kaakano is a beginner level Maaori language class that will focus on conversational social learning settings and styles to better instill our language in the same it was taught by our tuupuna, orally.
This will be done through mihimihi, waiata, karakia and an overall focus to koorero than bookwork.
There will be 8 classes over the 8 week period. One week will have two classes due to the Kings Birthday holiday on June 3rd .There will be no class held on this date.
Time and date for the additional class will be agreed upon by mutual choice once course has started.
This course is available to persons 16 years and over.
During this course we will study the following:
- Become familiarised with our tikanga, style of education and work on our pepeha, whakapapa and whaanau
- Reaffirm previous learnings, and expanding into common saying, phrases, greetings and emotions.
- Reaffirm previous learnings, and being to look at simple sentence structure.
- Sentences structures. Learning to understand tone, context and uses of the different structures.
- Learn a puuraakau, explore Maaori concepts, ideology and wider whakaaro.
- Using all learnt knowledge into making a puuraakau for our class, to act as a motif for future learning.
