Up to 50% of people killed by police have a disability, according to the Ruderman Family Foundation. This presentation is designed for people with disabilities and/or mental health disorders and their loved ones to provide tools to empower them, help them communicate with 1st responders, ask for accommodations, advocate for themselves, and ultimately feel and be safe when interacting with first responders.
In-person participants will receive a magnet for their homes with a script to use if they ever need to call emergency responders. The goal is to help them remember specific information that is important to relay should they ever need to call for help. Online participants will receive a PDF copy of the script they can print out.
