“Interacting with People With Disabilities" (IWD)®, is a comprehensive training program that provides best practices and up-to-date approaches, techniques, and tactics to promote better interactions with people with disabilities and mental health disorders in our communities.
Attendees will:
- Learn how to recognize characteristics of various disabilities and mental health disorders, and learn tools to aid in communication with individuals living with these conditions.
- Acquire tools to help avoid inadvertently escalating a situation with someone who may have sensory or communication differences.
- Better understand a variety of mental health disorders as well as developmental and intellectual disabilities, including Autism, so they can be prepared for interactions that may not go as expected.
- Learn effective strategies that may de-escalate confrontations with people with disabilities and mental health issues.
