ART CLUB: Queer Art

ART CLUB was crafted by youth for youth to share space, vocalize ideas and challenge oneself to go beyond self imposed barriers. We will watch short videos and films at the beginning of each Art Club that correlate to the month’s theme and will lead us into discussion. We will occasionally have local artists from the community speak to the students as well. Gain connection with other like minded young creatives in the Sacramento community and join Verge’s ART CLUB! Art Club is ran and facilitated by Verge's high school intern with the support of Verge staff members.

This monthly event is FREE and open to all High School aged students.

June's Topic: Queer Art Studies

Queer Art has been a staple as we progress throughout history. Through the intensities of movements such as Stonewall, The Aids Epidemic, and Trans liberation, art created by those enduring these realities creates empathy and understanding for those who may not live in the same reality. Queer art also provides a means of representation for those who may not see themselves in the hetero-normative media of our society.

Art Club will have guest speakers who talk about their experiences as Queer Artists.
