Curiosity in Action: Research and Writing (4-7th)
Curiosity in Action: Research and Writing (4th-7th)
In this course, students will embark on research projects through a series of engaging writing activities and collaborative projects. They will explore various research tools, learn effective scanning techniques, and discover strategies for narrowing down topics. Throughout the course, students will participate in factual scavenger hunts and practice analyzing texts for reliability. Ultimately, each student will choose a topic of personal interest and create a brief multimedia presentation showcasing their findings. At the end of the semester, students will share their mini passion projects during an online session with invited guests.
Target Audience: This course is designed for students in grades 4-7. However, the research process can be tailored to meet the needs of younger or older students as necessary. Participants will be expected to use online tools (a laptop is recommended) and complete follow-up activities independently after each session. Families are encouraged to visit libraries or seek out additional resources to support students' individual research interests.
Course Benefits: Developing research skills at a young age empowers students to explore topics they are passionate about, ask critical questions, pursue information, evaluate sources, and create meaningful projects based on their discoveries. Throughout the course, students will enhance their research abilities while also refining their writing, proofreading, and presentation skills. By working collaboratively, they will support one another in their research journeys and gain insights into the process of becoming a scholar.
