Introduction to Forged Jewelry
Metals 201Introduction to Forged Jewelry, 3 hours, $150.00
One of America’s great sculptors, Alexander Calder, made jewelry using little more than wire, a hammer and pliers. This class will introduce students to some of the techniques he used. Through this fast paced class students will learn some of the basics of forging: directional forming, making a taper, “flip” earrings, and the fibula, a one-piece of metal pin - the original safety pin.
Class is limited to three students. Instruction will be by the discuss, demo, do methodology.
Students will work in copper, brass, and sterling silver wire and sterling silver french hooks for flip earrings.
Materials fee, $35.00 (paid directly to the instructor). Additional sterling silver wire will be available for purchase for those ready to make a show piece as a gift for a friend or themselves.
