Birds have captivated humans for centuries and it's hardly a wonder why. Whether it's their incredible adaptations to survive across some of the harshest environments or their tremendous migrations spanning thousands of kilometers, it’s hard not to be mesmerized by these amazing animals. It comes as no surprise that birding has become a popular hobby amongst generations. However, learning the proper techniques to observe, identify, and record bird sightings can be challenging. Join us in this workshop as we review equipment, guides, and local birding hotspots so that you can start your birding experience on the right foot. In this workshop, participants will spend the morning learning identification techniques and observing the diversity of wild birds found in Ontario. We will kick off the day at Traill College with an introduction to birding, covering equipment use and practices to locate and identify species (1 hour). Immediately after, we head to our first site to observe bird species found at Corrigan Hill Park (1 hour). After, we will head out to the Lang-Hastings Trail, stopping at two locations to observe wetland and forest species (1.5 hours). This course is recommended for beginning birders. Binoculars and cameras are highly recommended.
