Let the Ancestors Speak - Use of Enslaved Women's Narratives for Healing

This virtual session is designed for therapists, healers, and social justice advocates interested in harnessing the power of enslaved African women’s narratives for healing.

This experiential session focuses on the energy of the divine feminine and how the stories of enslaved African women can be used for healing. We will move through activities to explore family relationships, healing from trauma, balance, character and resiliency development as we embrace the past. Participants will engage in pre-session reading of several narratives designed for personal self-reflection and transformation. This workshop utilizes an African-centered psychological framework to the ground experiential activities designed for healing.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Describe two methods for utilizing the narratives of enslaved African women for healing.
  2. Identify best practices when addressing traumatic material in narrative writings.
  3. Apply techniques for building resiliency through the reading of enslaved African women’s narrative’s.
  4. Describe core concepts for using historical narratives as a therapeutic intervention.
