Persian Dance - Intermediate (Ages 7+)

Intermediate dance is restricted to students that have mastered beginner dance in a previous semester.

Welcome to Persian dance! This intermediate-level course is designed to build upon the foundations of traditional Persian dance learned in the beginner level course, delving deeper into the intricacies of traditional Persian dance within an engaging and dynamic atmosphere. Get ready for a fun and exciting class that combines cultural immersion, rhythmic expression, and the artistry of choreography.

Course Highlights:

  1. Intermediate Technique: Students will learn more difficult movements and postures, refining the nuances that define traditional Persian dance. Emphasis will be placed on mastering more intricate steps and developing a heightened level of physical expression.

  2. Rhythmic Mastery: This class will present more complex musical patterns and dances that synchronize movements with intricate rhythms. Students will develop a nuanced understanding of how music shapes the dance.

  3. Choreography: Choreography in this course is designed to elevate students’ dance skills with the introduction of challenging Persian dance routines. Each class will focus on a choreographed piece, allowing students to expand their repertoire of culturally authentic dances. Students will collaborate with peers to create captivating performances that reflect the essence of Persian dance.

  4. Cultural Context: The intermediate-level dance class introduces students to Azari, Bandari, Gilaki/Shomali, Kordi, Lori, Baba Karam, and other Iranian folk dance styles. Students will discover the cultural significance of traditional Persian dance as it merges with contemporary Persian music. Choreographed performances will include traditional costumes and accessories. Students will gain an appreciation for the symbolism and cultural nuances reflected in the attire and presentation of this delicate art form.

  5. Performance: Participants in this intermediate-level class will master a choreographed dance set to an Iranian song and have the opportunity to perform it with a group of their peers on stage during the annual ICF Yalda celebration.

  • Materials: Flexible dance shoes and comfortable dance attire are recommended.
