Inclusive Pedagogy Academy: Fall 2024
Welcome to the Inclusive Pedagogy Academy!
CU Denver’s Inclusive Pedagogy Academy (IPA) is focused on helping faculty create meaningful, effective, and equitable learning experiences for all students. Inclusive pedagogy aims to create learning environments where students of all backgrounds and identities feel valued and respected. By embracing inclusive pedagogy, educators foster a sense of belonging and honor student strengths and experiences. This approach also encourages instructors to address structural and historical inequalities that have often marginalized certain groups in education.
The IPA is open to CU Denver faculty of all ranks (both full-time and and part-time) and instructional staff. You will get the most out of the IPA experience if you are currently teaching a course.
The IPA begins with an examination of inequitable institutional and cultural structures in higher education and then narrows in focus with each unit to find ways to better understand and honor instructor and student identity and lived experience, identify strategies to increase a sense of belonging, and enact inclusive policies and practices in our teaching and learning spaces.
We anticipate that participants will spend around 6-8 hours on coursework for each 2-week unit. The IPA is a blended learning experience that consists of asynchronous online learning in Canvas and synchronous (optional) remote drop-in sessions at the end of each unit. There will also be a synchronous welcome session and wrap-up session. This mix of modalities is designed to give you opportunities for both individual reflection and collaboration within your cohort.
- Unit 1: Introduction to Inclusive Pedagogy
- Unit 2: Identities and Dimensions of Diversity
- Unit 3: Inclusive Policies and Practices
- Unit 4: Assessment, Reflection, and Wrap-Up
Throughout the 9-week course, participants will update their syllabi, course policies, teaching philosophy, and course assignments and materials to be more student-centered and inclusive. Upon successful completion (a final grade of 90% or above) of the Inclusive Pedagogy Academy, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion that they can include in their CV, professional networks, evaluations, and in promotion and tenure dossiers as evidence of teaching effectiveness.
