NEW LTA Coach (Level 3)

LTA COACH CORE TRAINING

A new 11-day LTA Tennis Coach qualification aimed at those looking to work full time in the coaching industry or deliver high quality group and individual coaching sessions part time.

PREREQUISITES

Before signing up to the course, you will need to:

  • Have completed the LTA Instructor (Level 2) qualification or equivalent
  • Be LTA Accredited or hold a DBS/PVG Enhanced Check with Child Barred List certificate (Volunteer certificates cannot be accepted) applied for through LTA. The certificate must be less than 12 months old from the start date of the course. A DBS can be accepted if you are on the Update Service.
  • Have (or have had) a rating of 6.1 or better, have successfully completed the Coach Readiness Test or have previously completed a Play Test (at a minimum of Grade 1)
  • Hold a valid certificate of competence in either First Aid at Work(FAW), Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), Paediatric First Aid or will have successfully completed the OFQUAL Level 3 in First Aid

CORE TRAINING

To complete this qualification, you will need to complete the 9 face to face training days, 4 remote video sessions and coursework which makes up core training. In addition to this you will need to complete 2 face to face elective courses (paid separately) before progressing to summative assessment with the LTA (paid separately).

EXPERIENCE

As part of this course coaches will be required to complete 9 hours of qualification experience across a minimum of 3 different areas. These areas could include learning from other sports, doubles training, LTA Youth Blue and more.

ONLINE LEARNING

Comprehensive on-line learning system which supports face-to-face delivery. This includes supporting documents and video to widen knowledge beyond the course as well as tasks and reports which must be completed.

COURSE DETAILS

Core Training

  • Day 1 - 3-hour remote video welcome session
  • Day 2, 3, 4 - Module 1- on court face to face with tutor
  • Day 5 - 2-hour remote video session setting the scene for module 2
  • Day 6, 7 - Module 2 - on court face to face with tutor
  • Day 8 - 2-hour remote video session setting the scene for module 3 and Tutorials
  • Day 9, 10 - Module 3 - on court face to face with tutor
  • Day 11 – 2-hour remote video session setting the scene for module 4
  • Day 12, 13 - Module 4 - on court face to face with tutor

Access to LTA Learn course to complete online coursework.

The online coursework for the Level 3 course includes:

  • Player Development Project- planning and delivery of 8x individual lessons with the same player. Coaches must evidence this with video footage and film a presentation.
  • Module and Subject Matter Expert Tests- these tests will be used to check understanding from the face-to-face modules and online presentations on LTA Learn.
  • Feeding and Demonstration task- practicing 11 different feeding/demonstrating situations, developing areas of improvement, and then completing the tasks again.
  • Group Coaching Task- after module 3 coaches will need to film a 20-minute video coaching a group of 6-10 players on 2 courts. Passing this submission will be essential to pass online learning at the first attempt.

Online learning will be graded and contribute to 40% of your final grade.

ASSESSMENT

There are 3 parts to assessment. Your online work must be complete to pass the course. On the last module, your course tutor will do your group coaching assessment. You must complete your individual lesson assessment with the LTA through a video submission. This must be booked separately to the course.
