Natural Pigments Workshop
Join us for an immersive 3-day workshop where you will explore the art of sourcing color and creating paints directly from the local landscape.
“Natural pigments” are colors derived from natural sources such as minerals and plants. This hands-on workshop will guide you through the entire process of foraging, processing, and creating with natural pigment watercolor paints. The first day of class will take place outdoors on local trails, where students will learn to forage sustainably for natural materials suitable for creating pigments. The second day of the workshop students will meet in the studio and learn the basic principles needed to turn their foraged materials into high-quality art materials. On the final day, students will return to the trails for a day of creating with their natural paints outdoors. All students will leave the workshop with their own set of hand-crafted natural watercolors, as well as an understanding of how to craft their own materials in the future.
Students will need to be comfortable walking in a trail setting, and should dress appropriately for weather conditions.
