Are you hungry for compelling stories and to immerse yourself in complex characters? Are you yearning to feel confident in your choices and comfortable in your own body?

Welcome to Intimacy and Active Analysis in Rehearsal, a workshop for actors seeking to explore the depths of the human psyche in a safe and supportive environment of like-minded artists.

Over 9 weeks, actors will learn to hone their vulnerability, build an ensemble, and create complex characters by working together on one of the most thought-provoking plays in the modern theatre canon.

Week 1 will begin with a group intimacy discussion led by our esteemed intimacy coach.

After week 1, all ten actors will select a play together from a list provided by the instructors. Each actor will choose one role to focus on throughout the workshop. (And yes, more than one actor can work on the same role!)

From weeks 2 through 9, each session will begin with a group intimacy discussion followed by intimacy exercises or script analysis and character-building exercises. Utilizing the primary tool of active analysis, actors will devise short scenes, called etudes, that portray off-stage moments, character backstories, and psychological aspects of their characters, such as relationships and motivations. They will also test their analysis of specific scenes through focused scene improvisations. These lessons will allow actors to access a broader range of choices, giving them an edge in any audition process and making them an asset to any rehearsal process.

Learn more about our intimacy and active analysis philosophy.

In this workshop, you will learn to:

  • Create space to be your most authentic self in every environment.
  • Fast-track a rapport with your fellow artists to build like-minded ensembles and create earth-shattering productions.
  • Make bold, captivating choices and use measurable tools to test them in a judgment-free environment.
  • Learn intimacy practices based on human psychology and character-building exercises taught at one of the world's foremost theatres.

In addition, actors will receive two private sessions with Intimacy Coach Mara Lee Gilbert. To enhance their growth, actors will receive outside reading and self-discovery exercises to do at home.

  • The workshop is limited to 10 actors and runs for 9 weeks, Mondays 6:30-9:30 pm, May 5 - June 30, 2025
  • Cost: $400*
