Intermediate Knitting - Level 3: Cabled Hat
Once you have an understanding for ways stitches can be knit to create textures, have some experience with how to read your knitting, it’s time to learn how to knit cables! We will be knitting a cabled hat where you’ll learn a few ways stitches can be moved around to create cables, learn to look for clues that will help you read your knitting, and what to do when there’s a mistake in the work.
We will be using the Sandy Shores hat designed by Anna Johanna. A printed copy of the pattern will be provided for you in the class, as well as emailed to you a week before the class. If you provide your Ravelry name in the registration form, we can also add it to your Ravelry library at that time. The pattern features multiple cables, bobbles and a button hole opening at the top to accommodate a button on pom pom.
First session: practice swatch – bring knitting needles (see Please bring below), we’ll provide some acrylic yarn for the practice swatch; cast on hat.
Second session: trouble shoot progress and continue knitting the hat.
Skill Level: solid understanding for how to knit in the round, work both k & p stitch, some basic cable knitting experience, be able to read your knitted fabric, long tail or cable CO.
Materials Included: copy of the pattern, 25 g practice yarn.
Please bring: yarn you’ve chosen for your hat, US 5 (3.75 mm) and US 6 (4.0 mm) - 16’’ / 40 cm long circular needles and dpns, darning needle & scissors.
Homework: bring listed materials and a notebook and pen if you want to take additional notes.
Please note the classroom is upstairs (14 steps).

Susan is the best!
I really liked that the classes were small and I think there should be 3 classes for the thrummed mitts instead of 2
The instructor was great she explained everything really good.
Susan is a great instructor and very knowledgeable. I think 3 classes were required for this project as most of us didn’t manage to finish one mitten therefore practicing all the steps needed to complete the project
Susan was very patient and helpful throughout! She also provided some extra help for a few of us that needed. However I feel the class should have been longer, either extend the time of each class or add another day. The Trummed mittens are not an easy or fast project!
I did enjoy the space at Numana and the welcoming atmosphere!!
