Class fee $270 ($30 per 1.5 hour class)

Beacon Youth Theatre Ensemble is a middle and high school theatre program unlike any other! In BYTE, students harness their voices through improv and acting training, using their own creativity and an exciting variety of modern and classic plays. This class is a friendly, welcoming space for theatre students who want to challenge themselves, deepen their craft, laugh a lot, and collaborate with like-minded peers.

This fall, BYTE will be split into two sections. The first half of the class will be an improv comedy intensive. We’ll sharpen our improvisation and storytelling abilities through games and exercises, and practice long-form improv techniques that we can use to create original plays and characters right before an audience’s eyes. We’ll have improv coach Emily Sylvester working with the class to help each student reach new levels of skill and confidence.

In the second half of the class, we’ll combine fight choreography and acting skills to bring dramatic scenes to life. Students will choose a scene from a play that speaks to them (or write their own!), then practice bringing the conflict in that scene to life using a combination of physical stage combat and dynamic character work. Guest artist Hampton Fluker will join us for the process of creating and choreographing these scenes.

Each section will end with a small performance for families and friends.

Some acting experience is recommended for this class but not required. This program is designed to challenge advanced students while providing a place for beginners to learn and explore at their own pace. Join us and be amazed at what you can do!
