Triage – A Special Film Screening with Peter Raymont ’15 and Dr. James Orbinski ’80 (Traill)
Join Traill College’s first filmmaker in residence, Peter Raymont ‘15, and Traill alumnus Dr. James Orbinski ‘80, as they screen the powerful documentary Triage: Dr. James Orbinski's Humanitarian Dilemma.
Raymont is one of Canada's most acclaimed documentary film makers. He has won four Gemini Awards, three Emmy Awards, a Genie Award and a Canadian Screen Award, as well as major prizes at the Sundance Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival and many more. Raymont’s films have covered a wide range of topics; from the American manipulation of news from Central America in The World Is Watching (1988) and The World Stopped Watching (2003), to the Rwandan genocide in Shake Hands with the Devil: The Journey of Roméo Dallaire (2004). Magic in the Sky (1981) documented the creation of an Inuit-language TV network in the Canadian Arctic.
Orbinski is a physician, humanitarian, and research scientist. In 1999, as president of the International Council of Médecins Sans Frontières he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize. He has held the title of full professor of medicine at the University of Toronto and later was the Chair of Global Health at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and CIGI Chair in Global Health Governance at the Balsillie School of International Affairs at Wilfrid Laurier University. In 2017, he became the founding director of the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research at York University. This August, he was appointed the seventh principal of Massey College at the University of Toronto and is cross-appointed as a full professor with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.
