Builder's Lab at CFSOTA

Course Description:

CFSOTA is excited to announce its newest offering in youth programming: The Homeschool Builder’s Lab! This class, designed for homeschool children ages 7 and up, will be held over six sessions in the fall and early winter of 2024. Children will be guided by CFSOTA’s woodshop instructor Mac Beard.

Students will learn age-appropriate woodworking skills through the start-to-finish completion of multiple projects. Students will be encouraged to gain mastery of woodworking skills as they work towards more complex and self-initiated projects. Each project will offer opportunities for additional at-home learning. Join us for this journey into wood working that will inspire confidence and teach important skills, all while having fun!

Build Buddies is being offered as a companion class for ages 2-6; please note that there is no additional charge to have a child participate in Build Buddies. Children will be provided age-appropriate building materials and supervision to encourage their imaginations to run wild. The re-purposing of household recyclables into building materials will be encouraged.

Course Notes:

Given that the nature of this class is based on accumulating knowledge and is designed for students to work on a series of projects that will stretch across sessions, we will close enrollment after the second session on September 25th, unless the class maximum is filled before that date.

While there will be parent volunteers present to assist the instructor during the class, parents and caregivers are encouraged to be present and are welcome to work alongside their child during sessions.

An Important Note About Safety: Students will be working in a standard woodshop environment that contains working machinery and tools that should be always treated with the utmost caution. Students will be expected to respect and follow the instructor’s safety rules, directions, and instructions in order to ensure that all students have a safe and fun experience. Waiver forms and safety expectations will be reviewed during the initial class sessions. Closed toe shoes are required. No loose hair, clothing, or jewelry.
