Kiln Rental

Our Studio offers Kiln rentals to the public.

Partial kiln space can be rented down to ¼ of a kiln.

The turn around for firing depends on how much we are currently firing student work and the dryness of your pieces. Towards the end of our 6 week pottery sessions we tend to fire the kilns nearly every day to finish student work. All classes are listed online if you would like to see where we are in each session so you can plan accordingly.

We can get most firings done in a few days, both bisque and glaze in about a weeks time. If you are on a tight deadline email Delores to see if your work can be scheduled and fired faster. This may require a fee.

Add in your desired firing and pick up date in the notes of your kiln rental purchase.

Work can be stacked and touch for a bisque Firing. Work cannot touch in a glaze. An example in a bisque kiln 15 9in wide plates can stack 3 tall on a shelf measuring 3in tall. The same amount of plates will take up triple the amount of space in a glaze kiln.

When trying to determine how much kiln space to purchase, draw a 26in wide circle. ¼ of the kiln is 26in wide and 6in tall. Pieces must be at least 1/2 in shorter than the shelf height. All work that can fit on that shelf and under 6ins is ¼ of the kiln.

Work can be dropped off during our open studio hrs and during class times. Open studio times are preferred as to not disturb the class. There are no classes in between sessions and occasionally we cancel or postpone a class due to weather and or illness. Check class dates online before arriving to the studio or email Delores.

Open studio hrs

Wed 1pm - 6pm

  • If you purchase space and end up needing more you will be charged for the additional space. Please read each option carefully and take note of size and dimensions.
  • We start our kilns in the evening so they can fire overnight. We may start bisques earlier in the day if the work requires a long preheat.
  • Pieces cannot be more than 3/4inch thick.
  • Any hollow pieces must have a hole for air to escape
  • No foreign objects in clay that has not been cleared with Delores, ie metal, glass, wood.
  • If using wild clay contact Delores before purchasing space.
  • Large/ Sculptural Pieces must be at least 1in shorter than the interior height and 2ins narrower than the width. Kiln dimensions are listed Below.
  • Fired pieces may have pencil marks on the bottom. These are numbers corresponding with the current month of the year. This is how we keep track of how long pieces have been in the studio. This comes off easily with a normal pencil eraser and for bisque ware it burns off in the firing. Full Kiln rentals are less likely to have this.
  • This is a community studio. Breaks, chips, kiln, glaze and various mishaps happen. We work very hard to avoid any of these issues.
  • Renters will be charged a fee if pieces are severely stuck to the kiln shelves due to error in glaze application. Make sure your glazes are suited for cone 6.
  • Ornaments and large numbers of flatware are discouraged but we may fire them. Email Delores to see if we can fit them in.
