The Two Piece Spoon, 6 hours, $300 (Flexible scheduling)
The spoon is one of man or woman’s oldest utensils. Over time it has been made from bone, stones wood, metal, plastic and many other materials. It’s scope is expansive. Metal spoons can be made from either a single piece or multiple pieces soldered or otherwise joined together. This class will deal with the later, the 2 piece spoon. The first session will deal with bowl and handle formation as well as mechanical joints. Students will make a silver spoon during the second session.
The class is limited to two students. Instruction will be by the “discuss, demo, do” approach.
The class is scheuled for 6 hours of instruction over two successive Saturdays. If the scheduled time is not convenient for you, please contact Jim at jimcohenjudaica@gmail.com to discuss scheduling.
Materials fee, $75.00 (paid directly to the instructor) includes copper for practice and sterling silver for making a 4-5” “silver spoon” as well as studio supplies. The materials fee may increase depending on the complexity and size of the silver spoon. Note, if the scope of the silver spoon project you want to make is such that instruction time exceeds 7 hours total additional time will be billed at $50.00/hour.
