Assessment, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder with Comorbid Psychosis

Series Description

This in-person workshop delves into the implications of the intersectionality of race, gender, and socioeconomic status. This 6 hour workshop will explore the complex nature between Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and psychotic symptoms focusing on the ethical assessment of ASD and psychosis, best practices for culturally informed differential diagnosis, and the selection of ethical treatment options.

By the end of the workshop, the participant will be able to:

  1. Identify the historical connection between ASD and psychotic disorders.
  2. Identify ethical issues associated with the assessment and diagnoses of ASD and psychotic symptoms.
  3. Identify how the intersection of race, gender, and SES impact the assessment and diagnostic process for ASD.
  4. Identify characteristics to help differentially diagnose clients with ASD alone, a psychotic disorder alone, or comorbid ASD and psychosis.
  5. Identify the empirically supported pharmacological and psychosocial treatments for ASD and for psychosis.
  6. Identify strengths and weaknesses of treatments for clients with both ASD and psychotic symptoms.
