Ceramic Handbuilding - Coils Techniques Workshop

Together, we'll dive into the wonderful world of ceramic handbuilding using coils. Get hands-on as we explore the basics of creating beautiful pots, vases, and sculptures. We're all about embracing your inner artist here, so let your imagination run wild and play around with different clay shapes.

Coil construction is one of the oldest methods of forming pottery, with evidence of coil-built ceramics dating back thousands of years in various cultures worldwide. It has been used to create everything from everyday household items to ceremonial and decorative objects. Coils are long, snake-like ropes of clay that are rolled out evenly. These coils are then stacked, overlapped, and smoothed together to build up the walls of a form. This method allows for a great deal of control over the shape and size of the final piece.

After finishing shaping your piece, we will discover a range of Engobe colors to decorate and complete your object.

Each participant will have 1kg of clay to work with, additional clay is available at the studio at an additional cost.

Decorating with Engobe, Glaze, and Fiing is included in the workshop, the teacher will gather all the pieces and prepare them for the first firing then glaze them with transparent glaze and fire them the second glaze firing, pieces can be collected from 3 to 5 weeks after the last day of the workshop from our open studio.

Please bring an old T-shirt or an apron, working with clay can be very missy!

We accept Cash payment ONLY.
