As an introductory workshop, this two-part series will use collaborative, culturally responsive and equitable approaches to examine what being “culturally responsive” and “equitable” are in systems change practice. We will explore a framework, which can be adapted for such work, that embodies the principles of culturally responsive and equitable evaluation. These principles are rooted in systems thinking, equity, indigenous ways of knowing, and collective power. The I.M.P.A.C.T. (Inclusive, Manumit, Practice-based, Accessible, Community-focused and Timely) framework serves as a guide to: 1) foster a community-first approach to goal setting in systems change; 2) complement data-driven, measurement-oriented methodologies used in assessments; and 3) heighten the value and merit ascribed to practice-based, culturally relevant, and experiential learning. The specific objectives are: 1) To recognize how cultural responsiveness and social equity allows mission-driven organizations to account for lived experiences in their approach; and 2) To use the I.M.P.A.C.T. framework as a community-focused and culturally centered tool. The presenter will combine the use of slides, small-group discussions, and self-reflection exercises to communicate the content.
