Technique: Drawing / Charcoal & Pencil on Paper

Level: All levels (no prior art experience needed)

About the class

Each class will begin with exercises designed to help you relax and unlock your creativity, followed by focused drawing sessions on self-portraiture using charcoal pencils and sticks. Each participant will work on a self-portrait where they will learn to suggest volume, light and darkness using shading techniques. In the final session, participants will be encouraged to develop a personal concept for self-representation, incorporating symbolic elements from their own experiences to express deeper aspects of their identity beyond their physical image. 

⚡️The class is guided step by step by professional artist and studio guest instructor Mafalda Figueiredo. You will learn the fundamentals of portraiture/self-portrait drawing as well as how to self-represent in creative ways. All experience levels are welcome and will benefit from this class, from complete beginners to advanced artists.

Material

⚡️All material (professional-grade drawing material and paper) and professional guidance throughout are included in the price of this course. An apron is available to use on site. 

Refreshments

⚡️Coffee and tea is free, and there are always sweet & salty snacks :) Alcoholic drinks are available for a small contribution.

Age Limit

This course is intended for adults. Minimum age of participation is recommended at 16 years old.

What will you take home?

⚡️At the end of the course, you will have many different complete works to take home with you and a foundational knowledge of portraiture/self-portraiture. After the course, you are welcome to join our guided Open Painting Session to continue developing and practicing your skills!
